I think the Radiation Oncology Blog is a good resource here: Forum Post On Tumour Bed Effect]]
The tumour bed effect describes the differences in tumour growth when they are implanted into tissue that has been pre-irradiated compared with non-irradiated tissue.
- Tumours grow more slowly when innoculated into an irradiated medium
- Creatures live longer when their tumours are innoculated into an irradiated site
The prevailing theory is that the altered vasculature and connective tissue is less able to support tumour growth. This may have the unexpected effect of also creating more resistant tumours (due to increased hypoxia).
