b) Tonsil
The palatine tonsils are paired lymphoid structures that are situated in the tonsillar fossa, located on each side of the oropharynx. The fossa is bounded anteriorly by the palatoglossal fold and posteriorly by the palatopharyngeal fold. The tonsils are a common site of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck and are also a common site of extranodal lymphomas. They are unique in the oropharynx for unilateral lymphatic drainage; this can be compromised when lesions extend into the soft palate or base of tongue.
