O: Palliative
Radiotherapy is an incredibly useful tool in the palliative setting. Radiotherapy has the benefit of not requiring anaesthetic and not causing side effects outside of the treated region. Furthermore, radiotherapy doses that can give significant symptomatic relief are lower than those used for curative treatments, allowing avoidance of many early toxicities.
Many of these palliative topics will be discussed in other sections of the site (eg. whole brain radiotherapy in the CNS topic).
