C40-41: Bones and Joints
Tumours of the bone and joints are classified together, but divided by site. The most common tumour of bone, metastatic disease, is coded depending on the system in use:
- ICD-10 codes secondary disease as C79.5 regardless of site
- ICD-O-3 codes metastatic disease as the appropriate C40-41 code, with the relevant histology code followed by /6 to denote a metastatic site (e.g. C40.1 8140/6 for metastatic adenocarcinoma involving the short bones of the upper limb)
