AFP
AFP is functionally similar to albumin. It is found in the fetal circulation between 4 weeks, peaks between 12 to 16 weeks and falls to minimal levels by birth. In the adult, elevated AFP is most commonly associated with hepatocellular carcinoma and teratoma for which it is highly sensitive and specific.
